Yesssss Server Service is running, File server on, Print Server on, its
included in kb829386 and kb325860, which i mentioned... Well, despite it i
just have tried one more time, checked all settings, services, again manually
purged registry from MSSQL traces - same result..
..
Starting custom action InstallSQLAgentSecurity
InstallSQLAgentSecurity failed (XBERLA04,LocalSystem,87).
Action ended 15:59:45: InstallFinalize. Return value 3.
..
I searched thru many answers a hints to this problem in comunities (the
major part is by you) and still no chance to install - pure despair...
Any possibility to install components step by step , not in msi package, to
solve where apears conflict first?

|||Bbaaaaaaaahhhh, reason is already know, solution not clear.
During installation of SQLAagentSecurity MSinstaller needs online
connection to Primary Domain Controller on port 53!!
Localhost is additional domain controller, replicated every
24hours and only replication ports are open.
Pls Andrea, u know any solution how to install MSDE without
online connection to PDS?....

Installation HELP please

I am trying to install MSDERelA on two machines one with SQL Server installed
(default) as a named instance and one without SQL Server (default). The OS is
XP Pro. The installation stops and logs the following error at the bottom of
the log:
DATABASE = C:\Docume~1\JIMHOP~1\Temp\f0ed6.msi
OriginalDatabase = C:\MSDERelA\setup\Run01.msi
UILevel = 3
ACTION = Install
====Logging Stopped===
Note: 1: 1708
Product: Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine -- Installation operation failed
I have no clue what this means or how to fix it. Any ideas? It won't install
at all.
Jim
Look for "Return value 3", and try to figure out from there why it failed.
When MSDE installation fails, it rollbacks every thing, so make sure you
check for the message before you click on 'Ok' Button when you get a error.
You can alternatively use DISSABLEROLLBACK=1 to stop installer from
rollback and /L*v <Log file name and path> to have a log file at a given
path.

Installation hangs for MSDE2000A on XP SP1

I'm trying to install MSDE2000A on XP SP1. I issue the command:
setup /SAPWD="mypassword" /L*v C:\MSDERelA\setup.log
The installation progresses for a couple of minutes and then hangs. The
last entry in the log is:
MSI (s) (DC:34) [06:37:29:140]: Executing op:

If I cancel the setup, it rolls back from this point.
I noted the information at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;841061
But this really deals with running the setup from an application, not from
the Microsoft supplied installer at a command line. Anyway, I tried this as
well and wrote a small application to run the installation as shown in the
KB. No change in behavior, the end-result is the same and the last log is
the same one.
BTW, I meant to say this is XP SP2, not SP1...
Sorry

please verify, using thetask manager, the setupre.exe is actually hanging...
if this is the case, kill this process... the installation should go on and
proceed with success...
