Hi Everyone,
I need help in installing my SQL Server Express 2005, any help would be appreciated. I already installed the SQL Server Express 2005 in my pc but i had a hard time configuring it so i decided to reinstall it just certain reasons. So i started reinstalling it, removing all SQL Server 2005 - related program in the add/remove software in the control panel. Then here is the problem now, i tried reinstalling it again but it doesnt work, everything is ok until i reach the screen after they let you choose the Instance Name. I having problem with the Existing Component Screen, it tells me that:
"The following components that you chose to install are already installed on the machine. To view a report of available options and alternates click on Details"
Then below that is the component that they claim is already installed in my pc which is the "SQL Server Database Service 9.1.2047.00" which i cannot check the checkbox. When i push the "Details" button it shows me this message:
"Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (SQLEXPRESS)
Allowed Action: Maintain (Action is only available from Add or Remove Programs)
Reason: Cannot maintain product, to maintain the product go to Add or Remove Programs"
And when i click the next button, its pops up a message saying:
"None of the selected feautures can be installed or upgraded. Setup cannot proceed since no effective change is being made to the machine. To continue, click Back and then select features to install. To exit SQL Server Setup, click Cancel."
and thats it, i cannot moved on from there. I have tried deleting all files left undeleted by uninstalling the SQL SERVER 2005 but still doesnt work. I just want to install it in my pc again and doesnt know how. Thank you so much in advance, any help would really really be appreciated.

When you go to Add/Remove Programs, do you see an entry for SQL 2005? It sounds like you have some SQL components on the machine (with the default instance name of SQLEXPRESS), so when you try to do a fresh install using this instance name, it detects an already existing instance.
For starters, go to ARP and click on the report for any SQL entries that exist and post back with what edition/version you see.
Thanks,

Thanks Sam. That did it. I was too stupid not to think that i cant use the same named instance twice. Thank you so much! I really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Stanley
