Installation of msde

Please help,...

If I am going to install MSDE 2000, do i need to install sql server..? I'm newbie in installing msde, After my installation what should I expect from my desktop to determine that MSDE already installed? Is it somewhat the same with sql server with Enterprise manger? Im familiar in using Sql server but not in MSDE. Do I can make table and manage it accordingly using MSDE alone? Or in order for me to create table I need to installed SQL Server..?Any information is highly appreciated.

hi Jack,

just an initial note.. are you considering installing SQLExpress instead of MSDE?

MSDE is based on SQL Server 2000 code base, where SQLExpress is based on SQL Server 2005..

no... MSDE IS SQL Server... just an edition of it, so you can install it on it's own..

nothing, but the SQL Server Service Manager in the tray area.. from this tool you can start/pause/stop the service..

SQLExpress provides a graphical management tool, SQL Server Management Studio Express you cand download for free, a subset of the full management tool of SQL Server 2005..

on the other side, MSDE does not provide management tools but a command line tool. oSql.exe, so you have to use other options, like my free tool for MSDE management..

again, try considering installing SQLExpress instead of MSDE if this is an available option in your scenario..

regards

|||I recommend following Andrea's exhortation to use SQL Server 2005 Express instead of MSDE. (MSDE is NOT supported on Vista, and is an old, out of date product.) SQL Express is the 'free' replacement -and so much more.)|||many thanks for the information. This is very useful to me. Go bless...
