Installing Developer Edition Management Studio

I'm attempting to upgrade from SQL Express to SQL Developer. I uninstalled completely before loading Dev edition, but I can't seem to install the Management Studio now. Any ideas?

Hello Joe,

Could you please let us know what error you are getting while installing Dev edition?

This will help in narrowing down the cause so that we can resolve it quickly.

Regards,

Rajesh

Actually, I just had to clean up the Windows Installer. Once I removed any references to Express Editions of visual studio and mssql, it worked just fine.

Thanks anyhow.

Installation problem

First time I am trying to install sql express on my computer but getting few problems. I am sure that I have uninstalled all sqlserver, net related programs from the computer (as per instructions but when I installed I am still getting the message there are few components exists).

I have used "vs_uninst_betas.exe" and found few programs still running. I dont know how to uninstall.

Please can you help?

Thanks in advance,

Sowkash

The first option is to look in Add/Remove programs to ensure that all SQL and SQL related programs are removed. If nothing is showing, you'll need to examine the Setup logs to see which specific programs are causing problems. For each program listed, you should see a listing for the Program ID. You can manually remove the programs with the command:

msiexec.exe /x <program id>

Do this for each program listed in the setup logs. The logs are located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG for a normal install of SQL Express.

Installation problem

When I had installed SQL 7.0 and about 99% completion,
the CD ROM drive is out of order and I had to end the
task.
Then I tried to uninstalled through add/remove program
but it is not successful.
Then I reinstalled SQL 7.0 again but the below messages
appears;
" There are files in the installation folder that do not
correspond to an existing installation listed in the
registry."
What has caused this? How to solve it? Please advise!Have a look at this article to see if it offers you any more information.

installation of SQL server express

I had a beta version of visual studio 2005, including SQL Server 2005, on my
PC. i have uninstalled these and now installed VB an d C# express but when I
try to install SQL xprs 2005 it tells me I have some beta stuff left.
anybody know what I should be deleting?
Look in the setup log files at:
c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Files\
There should be a message that says what setup found that it didn't like.

Installation issues

G'day,

I've been having trouble installing SQL Server Express on my XP Pro laptop. I have uninstalled and reinstalled .NET Framework 2.0 and successfully installed VB 2005 Express without error and I am a local Admin. The destination folder is not compressed or encrypted so it is a real mystery to me.

Below is the log file generated during the install attempt. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Check out the answer in http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=136496&SiteID=1, which seems to be addressing a similar problem.

Hi Mike,

thanks for that. Unfortunately none of the fixes worked. Any other ideas?

Cheers.

No other ideas here. I'm moving this to the setup forum.

Installation Error

After I uninstalled Reporting Services (which it was working just fine) and
to reinstall it, the setup screen for installing SQL Server Reporting
Services Setup Support Files completes successfully. When I click the Next
button nothing happens.
If I go to the event viewer, I get this:
Faulting application SETUP.EXE, version 2000.80.743.0, faulting module
sqlspars.dll, version 2000.80.743.0, fault address 0x00059cf8.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Any ideas? I turned on logging by doing this:
setup.exe /l*v setupmsi.log
and no log file was generated. Does anyone know what else I can try to get
this thing installed? I hope to god I don't have to rebuild my server. So
far, I have 3 servers that I cannot get reporting services installed on
since I have "screwed the pooch" on this by uninstalling RS - and now I
cannot put them back on. The development team is breathing down my neck on
this.
=-ChrisI apologize for the duplicate postings. I couldn't see this post and thought
that it didn't go through.

Installation Error

Hi,
I uninstalled the trial version of RS and delete the folder completely. But
when I re-install the permanent version, I received the message "Error" at
Componenet Update for Microsoft Reporting Services Setup Support Files. I
have attached the screen shot of the error page.
Is there any way I can re-install RS without re-building the machine?
SunnyThere should be a rsstp<#>.log file in your %temp% directory. Could you
post that please. Make sure that you are installing the same version/edition
as you did before.

The documentation for error 1601 is

Any idea why this might happen? Can you verify the Windows Installer
