installing hotfix SQL2000-KB810185-8.00.0780-ENU

I am attempting to install this hotfix on a second instance of SQL Server
2000 running sp3 on a window 2003 server. I successfully installed the
hotfix on the first instance with no problems following the same sequence of
events against the first instance.
I am unable to install as it tells me one of the files is write locked. I
have shutdown both instances (SQL server and SQL agent) as well as the MSDTC.
I have shutdown the Window 2003 server and attempted to run the install. I
was successfully able to install the hotfixes on 2 instances on another
server running the same products.
The file in question is dbmslpcn.dll.
Any suggestions ?
1. Try renaming the DLL - does this work?
2. Run TLIST (included in windows resource kit) to see what app is holding
a lock to this DLL
syntax: TLIST -m <DLL>/<.exe Name>
3. shutdown all unecessary services and set to manual mode, then reboot.
See KB for a list of services to NOT shut down:
INF: Order of Installation for SQL Server 7.0 Clustering Setup WGID:249
ID: 219264
Do not shut off any services necessary for disk or network access.

Installing Developer Edition Management Studio

I'm attempting to upgrade from SQL Express to SQL Developer. I uninstalled completely before loading Dev edition, but I can't seem to install the Management Studio now. Any ideas?

Hello Joe,

Could you please let us know what error you are getting while installing Dev edition?

This will help in narrowing down the cause so that we can resolve it quickly.

Regards,

Rajesh

Actually, I just had to clean up the Windows Installer. Once I removed any references to Express Editions of visual studio and mssql, it worked just fine.

Thanks anyhow.

Installation woes

Hello all,
I am attempting to install RS onto the following machine:
Win2k3 Domain Controller
SQL Standard
I have installed RS successfully, however at the end of the installation it
instructs me that it could not be activated.
I run rsactivate without success...
When I type http://ipaddress/reports I recieve an error Http 404 file not
found...
What have I done wrong?
Cheers
AshThis is the MS docs:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/rsinstall/htm/gs_installingrs_v1_8k82.asp
This may help more

A Google search should also render a whole bunch.

Here is what I would have attempted with my knowledge.
1. Check that the virtual directory exists in IIS.
2. The default page on the Reports directory is called Home.aspx, ensure it
is there.
From your example try http://ipaddress/reports/Home.aspx
3. Maybe IIS is blocking aspx pages, so put "aaa.htm" and a "aaa.txt" on the
virtual directory, see if you can get to them.
4. Create a test virtual directory, allow anonymous access, and put some
test pages there, txt, htm, aspx and see if you can get to them. Take the
anonymous access off, see what happens.

1. The virtual directory exists
2. The page is there and is accessable
3. Following the "Instructions" you pointed to in your previous post I
shouldn't need to do anything when installing on a brand new Win2k3 Domain
Controller, however I thought along these lines also before coming up empty.
4. I am running other Web applications fine off the server. CRM for one.
The whole reason I posted here was that I had exhausted all avenues. I
appreciate the time you have put into this.
Any other ideas anyone? I am at a loss here, I have installed RS
successfully many times on Win2k, this is my first experience with Win2k3.
I am leaning towards CRM having something to do with it. I will continue
the search for answers.

Installation problem - Enterprise x64 on WS2K3 SP2

All,

I am attempting to install SQL Server 2005 x64 on a pristine WS2K3 R2 SP2 system. The only thing I have installed on the system so far is the .NET framework 3.0 for SharePoint.

The SQL Server installer works until I get to the Feature Selection screen. The only two features that are supported are the client tools and the Documentation. Nothing else.

Any ideas?

Scott

Sounds like you have a 32bit OS.

SQL Server 64 bit will NOT install on 32 bit OS.

|||

I just double checked... it's the 64-bit version of Windows Server 2003. I have also installed service pack 2.

Scott

|||

Are you using right CD?

I have seen two CD/DVDs somties, one contains client componets and other complete sql...

so you may need to double check your installation media.

Installation of SQL Server 2000 Standard On XP Pro

Im attempting to install SQL Server 2000 Standard on Windows XP Pro and it keeps returning to me an error:

"Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition server component is not supported on this operating system. Only client components will be available for installation."

Anybody have any idea what this means according to the documentation and previous posts on installation problems my operating system should support this edition of SQL server.Since Windows XP Pro is a workstation and not a server, SQL Server 2000 Standard can not be installed on a workstation. For the detail, please click the following link:

http://www.microsoft.com/sql/evaluation/sysreqs/2000/default.asp|||You should instead install SQL Server Personal Edition, or SQL Server Developer Edition on any MS non-server Operating System.

I have installed the 32-bit versions of the hotfix packages onto a different server and I did not get these errors.

Any help on how to sort this out would be much appreciated!

These "failed to read associated hotfix version" error messages are misleading and do not necessary denote a failed install. I've had lots of successful installs that also contained these messages. Can you search you %WINDIR%\hotfix\hotfixsql\Files\sqlrun_sql.msp log for the text string "value 3" and see if there is a more descriptive message?

Thanks,
Sam Lester (MSFT)

From the hotfix log it may appear that these two issues are the same, however, 1603 is a generic error code for MSP installation which basically just means the install failed. You have to look specifically in the log generated for the MSP to determine the actual cause of failure.

It turns out though that the log with the error for both reports will be located here:

C:\WINDOWS\Hotfix\SQL9\Logs\SQL9_Hotfix_KB918222_sqlrun_sql.msp.log

You can determine this from these lines in the hotfix log:

11/02/2006 16:31:08.300 Attempting to install file: sqlrun_sql.msp
11/02/2006 16:31:08.360 Attempting to install file: \\FMEZ1TMP200\c$\4abf7684d30ce4aeb614ce\hotfixsql\Files\sqlrun_sql.msp
11/02/2006 16:31:08.370 Creating MSP install log file at: C:\WINDOWS\Hotfix\SQL9\Logs\SQL9_Hotfix_KB918222_sqlrun_sql.msp.log

As Sam suggests, search for "value 3" to try and locate the specific issue causing the failure in both cases. Once you have located it, please post the details so we can troubleshoot this further. Thanks!!

As Sam suggests, search for "value 3" to try and locate the specific issue causing the failure in both cases. Once you have located it, please post the details so we can troubleshoot this further. Thanks!!

08/23/2006 15:05:11.415 Details: Unable to install Windows Installer MSP file

Thanks!!

Hello.

I am attempting to install the first of the cumulative hotfix packages ( SQL2005-KB918222-x64-ENU.exe) after applying Service Pack 1 to a SQL Server 2005 std edn 64-bit installation. The service pack installed no problem but the hot fix fails with the following errors in the log file below.

I have installed the 32-bit versions of the hotfix packages onto a different server and I did not get these errors.

Any help on how to sort this out would be much appreciated!

Installation issues

I am attempting to install SQL RS and I am getting the
error "Instaliing WMI registration Error -2147221164" I
had just upgraded my PC from Windows XP Home to Windows XP
Pro. I suspect this is not a SQL RS issue, but maybe
someone knows something about a solution.Hi Steve,
As I believe, this error is specific to COM. It means that the CLSID for
the COM server
(see in your this case) isn't present in the registry. So WMI is not
installed
on the target system.

Installation error the parameter is incorrect

We are attempting to install a cluster for further SAP installation. I have
read the following article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;302491
I get this exact error message but (as far as I can tell) I have no invalid
characters. The ipAddresses string = 10.10.0.18,255.0.0.0,Public
Can anyone help (I'm a bit baffled at the moment!)
Thanks
I have now worked out what the problem is. There is another cluster with
"Public" defined. Have changed this to something else and it now works.
