Installing MS Reporting Services Probs

Hi NG
We have a problem to install the MS Reporting Services 2000 on a Windows
2003 Server Web Edition.
IIS is propertly installed, runing, and its serves many wepages.
During the installation (System prequestites check) of RS comes the
following message:
"IIS either not installed or not configured for a server component
installation"
We have no idea, how we can configure the IIS for server component
installations.

Installing Express Issue

I have just installed Sql Express

But one installed all I have available to me is

Sql Server Error reporting Usage

Surface area config

IDoes any one know how to get the other features like the databases and reporting installed

YOu will have to install the advanced edition for that. The normal edition does not include the reporting Service nor any database administration surface like the Management Studio.

Does anyone know how to correct this problem?

have never been able to repro this here.

installed fine. We are running Server 2003 STD (ver. 5.2.3790). .NET
Framework 1.1 (ver 1.1.4322.573). No Visual Studio installed.

Installing Delphi 2005 Gives Security Exception..

After installing delphi 2005 I am getting a security exception when trying
to access the reports/report manager/web service of Reporting Services.
I think it is Borland related - the stack trace shows borland in there
now...How do I fix?

I uninstalled Delphi 2005 and the problem went away immediately.....
I look forward to your solution. (I imagine I just have to give rights to

Exactly what did you find. What are we 'working around'? The problem
is what exactly? Isn't this an assembly rights issue, like when you install
that URL monitor DLL (security fix) from microsoft (forgot its name). You
would get these same sort of errors, until you put some magic entries into a
config file...

Installing client components

OK, we have a dedicated server with a standard SQL Server license. Weeks ago I ordered the Reporting Service from Microsoft, as it comes free with SQL Server but you still have to order it. It came in a bare-bones white envelope without any documentation, just a CD inside.
No problem -- I was able to install it on our server -- it recognized that we had a qualifying SQL Server installation, and installed Reporting Service.
I wanted to install the client components both on my laptop and my development computer at work, but I was wondering how it would know I was entitled to install, since the qualifying database was on a remote machine. Well, there was no problem on my laptop -- it installed OK. I guess it found what it was looking for.
Now I am trying to install it on my computer at work, and now it is asking for a 25-character product key. Well, the CD did not come with a product key. I was not asked to enter a product key on my laptop.
What is going on here,. anyone know?
I am more than fed up with this product .. but we have to use it.

You have a least received the CD - I subscribed well over 2 months ago and then again last month and have never received the CD - even though I am in Bangkok and was chaged for shipment....
So since we installed SQL 2005 here I thought I could "backload" the RS in SQL 2005 to SQL 2000 - but forget that - won't happen at least I have not figured out a way after an entire weekend. I was really psyched-up offering the calendar conrols in RS 2005 or (Business Intellingence) to our current users - but when you move an solution project to BI or RS 2005 it converts the RDL and you cannot back-load.
I don't know - but did you try to enter your SQL 2000 key when prompted - because it is 25 bytes long ? I would try that and see what happens... But you would think OK - so I enter a 25 byte key when prompted from the CD of RS - how does the RS CD know if the Key is valid - does it synch with the server?
I am curious how this is resolved - so if you do resolve - will you post back?

|||Well, I can't enter the SQL 2000 key, because I don't have it. We got our SQL Server through the hosting company from whom we rent the dedicated server, so they are the ones that installed it. I did ask them for the key, but they did not want to give it to me.
However, I did find a solution - I installed the SQL Server Developer Edition on my development computer. You know, this is the one that only costs about $50. You can only use it for development, but it is a full version.
When I tried installing Reporting Service after that, it did not ask me for the product key, and it installed successfully. Apparently, it just wants to see a full version of SQL Server.|||Cool!
Just wondering - in ADD or Remove Programs did the CD version of RS install as Microsoft SQL 2000 Reporting Services or Microsoft SQL 2000 Reporting Services Evaluation Edition?
So I wonder why MS makes such a big deal out of getting the production version of RS - especially sinice RS production version only looks for a installed version of SQL because you obviously have two(2) different "keys"

and One for your Server

Installing and Configuring Reporting Services using the Command Prompt

Hello, I have a question regarding installing SQL Express with Advanced Services from the command prompt. I am executing a .cmd file which has the following syntax:

start /wait setup.exe /qb INSTANCENAME=Tim ADDLOCAL=SQL_Engine,Connectivity,RS_Server,RS_Web_Interface SAPWD=1StrongPassword_2 SECURITYMODE=SQL DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0

Yet, after the installation when I run the Reporting Services configuration tool, none of the settings for Reporting Services are set. I would like to be able to install Reporting Services from the command prompt and have it use the default settings for creating a default website just like you can through the User Interface using the Setup.exe but cannot seem to figure out what I am missing in my .cmd file?

I would appreciate any help anyone can provide.

At one time there was a Reporting Services installation that worked on XP. I
know this because I was training & testing myself on my XP machine which also
has vs.net, SQL 2000 & IIS installed. In my default website, I had
directories called reportserver & reports.
After not using this for a while, I tried to browse (unsuccessfully) to this
website & I could not get to it. even after rsconfig.
I uninstalled Reporting services to give myself the practice, but using the
install I have now, It complains that all the components cannot be installed
with XP. I really shot myself in the foot. Any suggestions, besides shooting
myself in the head?If the SQL Server2000 is developer version, yes, you can installed all
components on your XP. Otherwise, you ca only install client components. The
SQL Server itself, along with Reporting Services, needs Windows Server (2K
or 2K3).

I urgently need to install a report that I developed (in Reporting Services
for SQL Server 2003) in a different computer, that doesn't has VS.NET (that
is, a can't build the reports there).
What files do I need to install, and where do I install them? And what about
the connection string of the report, how can I change it so that it will
work in the new computer ?I am unclear as to why you wish to put a report on a different computer...
however
1. if the reason is for someone else to develop the report, you must install
the developement environment on that computer
2. If you wish someone else to run the report, you should deploy it to a
reporting server...

Installing 2nd (Named) Instance of SQL Server 2005 EE

When installing a 2nd instance of SQL Server 2005 EE on a server, is it
necessary to install Reporting Services, SSIS, and Analysis Services again?
Does anyone know of any good documentation that discusses this subject?

No, if you need just an OLTP and / or olap named instance, you don't have to
reinstall RS or AS; you cannot install a second instance of SSIS because SSIS
is a stand alone service and you cannot have two SSIS on the same server.

Absolute newbie in reporting services...
Have a server with a SQL 2005 Standard Installation (version 9.00.1399.06) -
and now I've been asked to check if reporting services are installed - How
can I see this - and if its not there how do I install it ?Go to Control Panel, open "Services" applet, if there is "ReportServer"
service running, then, most likely, RS is installed on this vbox. Or go to
IIS manager, underneath Website, if you can see virtual folder "Reports" and
"ReportServer" (or Reports$ServerInstanceName and
ReportServer$ServerInstanceName), then, RS is installed.
RS can be installed on a computer where no SQL Server itself is installed.
However, it requires IIS. To installed it, simply place CD/DVD into drive
and in the installation wizard, make sure you select Reporting Services. You
may need to plann ahead for the user accounts used by RS: RS uses different
accounts for the service and data source access. You'd better plan ahead
according to your needs. RS is also an ASP.NET application, which has its
own security configuration that you need to plan well before hand.

Installatuin Problems

Hi
I have SQL SEVERVER 2000 ENTERPRISE EDITION (with sp3a) ON o/s 2003
I tried to install SQL SERVER REPORTING EVAL downloded from MS site.
(pending CD from retailer)
During the installation it tested for prerequisites and has thrown message
saying IIS is not installed or neither configured for rs.
But when I open .net report wizard etc are working fine. I can preview
report in .net
again Problem is when i tried to deploy it , it is saying reporting server
is not available.
I unistalled it and again checked while installing
I found the following:
again same problem related to IIS. ( I checked again ASP.NET ETC are
installed properly)
while installing it is not showing server componets and Report manager. It
is just showing client components. Does'nt eval edit have reporting server.
I dont know what to do at this
ANY HELP

R.DRS requires IIS with Dotnet 1.1 installed. Something is not right with the
prerequisites on your machine. The install should show the server
components. I used the evaluation edition for a couple of months so I know
for a fact it has everything.

Actually I unistalled IIS and installed again . Now I can see serve componets.
It is working fine.
Is there any way to store snapshots automatically to database instead of a
folder.

installation verification issue

I Just installed Reporting Services 2005 and I have a problem to make work

After installing it and setting different properties in the Reporting Services Configuration Manager, When it comes to verifying the installation, http://localhost/ReportServer or http://localhost/Reports pops up a Login Window, Where I enter Windows Account Username/Password, but this windows pops up again 3 times then I get Error page with the message:

HTTP 401.1 - Unauthorized: Logon Failed
Internet Information Services

SQL Server 2005 with SP2 is installed on WinXP SP2

What could be the reason?

Installation Reporting services on SQL fail-over cluster

Hi,
Perhaps a simple question, but I could not find a clear answer in the
deployment guide. I want to install SQL Reporting Services on a SQL fail over
cluster to be used for MOM Reporting. I was wondering where to run the set up
for SRS. Do I run it on the Virtual server or on one (or both) of the nodes?
Does anyone know?

once you go to the virtual server, you will be directed to the "Physical
Node" that owns the cluster resources. Always use the Virtual Server name to
do anything for RS or SQL Server.

We are running SQL 2000 still and I would like to implement reporting
services. When I install reporting services on the server will it require a
reboot to complete the installation? This is a production machine and I'd
like to install it during normal working hours but obviously can't if it
requires a reboot.
Generally speaking, does it take a lot of resources to run reporting
services? We have a rather small organization where only half a dozen folks
will need to run reports occasionally. Should I expect to see this using a
lot of system resources? Obviously, I know that some reports may take more
resources than others, but generally speaking...

LinnYes, if you install the Reporting Services on different computer, you need
another SQL Server 2000 license. You also need IIS runing and .NET1.1
installed. As far as I know, it does not need to restart computer (not 100%
sure, though).
We run SQL Server, reporting services and our major ASP.ENT app on a single
box (fairly powerful, though), to avoid to buy seperate SQL Server license,
just because of using RS. It is pretty smoother, so far, although our
ASP.NET apps and reporting services are used by more then 50 people daily
intensively.

exporting to PDF or Excel can really hammer the server. If there is any way
to upgrade the license (note I say license, not database) to SQL 2005 so you
can install RS 2005 it would be a good idea. There are a lot of improvements
with RS 2005. Multi-select parameters, end user sorting, faster pdf and
excel rendering, calendar control, etc.

I'm assuming I can get 2005. My main concern is that I don't disrupt my SQL
server. Our main database application is not designed for use with SQL
2005. They are working on an upgrade and expect it sometime next year.
But that is a good thought, using RS 2005 with our existing DB. But can
they co-exist on the same hardware?

no problem to have the metadata/object cache databases on SQL 2000.
I would hesitate to run RS 2000 on a production database server. I would
periodically have my server get totally frozen if a user exports a large
report to Excel or PDF. This problem for me went totally away when I went to
RS 2005. RS 2005 is on service pack 2, be sure to install that.

Installation question

I'm trying to install Developer Edition of Reporting Services on my Developer Edition of SQL Server 2000. The installation somehow doesn't seem to install the Reporting Services Samples nor the AdventureWorks Database. I'm not able to find why and how do I get to install them. Also, does the Developer edition support these installations? Are there any prerequisites for installing Reporting Services Samples and the AdventureWorks Database prior to installing Reporting Services on the whole?
Any help appreciated.

I dont see any error messages as such. It just shows up with red colored cross symbols in the tree structure in which it shows what will be installed and what wont be.

While trying to install, I noticed that I cudn't install the sample templates and the AdventureWorks Database. What do I need to have to install the full version of Enterprise edition of SQL Server Reporting Services??

Following the link walking thru the Reporting Services, I realized that I cannot install the Enterprise version of Reporting on my Dev Edition. So I uninstalled the Dev Edition of SQL Server and installed Enterprise edition of the same. Now, I cannot install the Database for it, simply because I run Windows XP and it does not install the Server tools of SQL Server 2000. This is getting the heck of me. these dependencies suck badly. Also, one another thing I'm wondering about is about how my friend was able to install the enterprise version of SQL Server on his machine which runs Win XP Professional as mine. Any insite wud be really helpful.

You can install any edition in XP with P4 CPU and at least 500megs of ram just don't answer questions. There are so many questions if you answer those stupid questions Windows check your answers against its database and end your installation. The only things I could select was the highlighted and passive options. The one that was highlightd was install Client tools option when I tried to install the Enterprise edition version of SQL Server 2000 on my machine, running XP. All I want is to install Enterprise version of SQL Server 2000 and then the Reporting services of the same Enterprise flavour on it. Any ideas on this??
Another point is that my friend was able to install Enterprise version of SQL Server 2000 on his machine running on the same XP OS.

Thanks|||I am sorry I did not ask you if you have SQL Server SP3a installed because without that you cannot install reporting services. And it is no big deal just 10.5 megs of T-SQL code in 25 files Windows uses an needed. And to get Enterprise edition in XP you can install it because the developer edition is Enterprise for five users, that is the only question Window forces for a positive Integer value. Questions I was asked SMTP or Exchange address and other none relevant questions which I did not answer. If it is your development box at home try SP4 if you have a USB drive to move all your code, if not use SP3a it is harmless. Remember SP3a not SP3.
AdventureWorks is a separate install you install the AdventureWorks 2000 application, open it and you will find the Installdb.sql file execute it in Query Analyzer to create AdventureWorks 2000, if you get an error go to Microsoft SQL Server folder under programs and open the data folder and if you see AdventureWorks MDF and LDF files delete them and run the file again and you will install it. If you need the installdb.sql file shoot me an email and you can have AdventureWorks 2000 with reporting services. Hope this helps.

there be a problem with this? Will I need to install Visual Studio on the
Webserver first?

needed for designing reports, it is not needed on the server. Just ignore
the message about VS when installing the server. I do not have VS or
frontpage running on my servers.
