installation media

Hi,
I am running SQL Server 2000 SP4 on Windows Server 2003 and IIS Server 6.0
on the same machine. I have a SQL Server 2000 installation CD. I don't find
Reporting Services included in that CD. From where can I get the Reporting
Services component? Thanks in advance.SQL Server2000' Reporting Services was released (2003) well after SQL
Server2000 (1999), as add-on. So, if your SQL Server CD was acquired before
RS available, it would not contain RS obviously. Usually, SQL Server2000
Reporting Services comes in a seperate disk. If you have a legal copy of SQL
Server2000, you are entitled for free SQL Server Reporting Services. You may
have to contact the dealer who sold you the SQL Server copy, if you do not
have one.

installation issues~

I am unable to download security updates for Outlook 2003- the message I got is: Error Code: 0x80070641...

when I tried installing any of the service packs (1,2, & 3) I am unable to as well. The message I get when doing this is:

The expected version of your product was not found on your system.

How can I fix this?

Thank you,

Ramzer

This is the SQL Server forum. My suggestion would be to locate an Outlook (or security update) forum and post the question there. I tried looking for one, but couldn't find it quickly. You could also post in the "Where's the forum for?" to see what they suggest.

Thanks,

Installation issues with MS Server 2003

okay,

so I've installed reporting services using mostley default configuration... but when you navigate to the report manager you get a 404 error.

any thoughts?

thanks in advance

Kay so it turned out that when we re-installed IIS on MS Server 2003 it set the .NET version to 1.0 as a default... change to 2.0 and its alll gravy.

Installation issues

G'day,

I've been having trouble installing SQL Server Express on my XP Pro laptop. I have uninstalled and reinstalled .NET Framework 2.0 and successfully installed VB 2005 Express without error and I am a local Admin. The destination folder is not compressed or encrypted so it is a real mystery to me.

Below is the log file generated during the install attempt. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Hi Mike,

thanks for that. Unfortunately none of the fixes worked. Any other ideas?

Installation issues

I am attempting to install SQL RS and I am getting the
error "Instaliing WMI registration Error -2147221164" I
had just upgraded my PC from Windows XP Home to Windows XP
Pro. I suspect this is not a SQL RS issue, but maybe
someone knows something about a solution.Hi Steve,
As I believe, this error is specific to COM. It means that the CLSID for
the COM server
(see in your this case) isn't present in the registry. So WMI is not
installed
on the target system.

Hi all,
I am trying to install SQL 2005 on my new laptop (VISTA), but for some
reason reporting services is not available to install. I have IIS installed
and the services are running. Does anyone know of a reason SRS is not
available?
TIA,
JoeHello,

Installation Issues

I have installed MSDE2000A on both 2000 and XP Pro machines, the install
appears to go fine. After the reboot, the service manager icon is empty,
when I look for the services in the drop down in the Service Manager it is
empty. In the system services screen, I have made sure all three services
are running. I cannot restore a database on this machine or connect to it
with Enterprise Manager. Any thoughts or help is appreciated.
Hi ,
First of all when you say the msde installtion "appears" to be installed
fine , have you verified the setup log file to see if the msde did indeed
install sucessfully or if there are any messages
Please follow the steps mentioned below to solve the problem:
1) verify the setup log for any error messages (most probably the msde
wasnever installed properly in the first place)
2) Can you see the msde services in the services . Try to start them
manually
3) Connect to the instance locally with the followong command
<installdrive>\program files\microsoft sql server\80\tools\binn \osql -E
-Sservername\instancename
do not use the -S parameter if default instance is used.
4) If you connect successfully then the msde is correctly installed.
5) Ensure that the tcp/ip is enabled using the client configuration tool
(cliconfg.exe) and also the server network utility (svrnetcn.exe )
6) try manually typing the server name in the service manager when it comes
out empty and then try to connect

Installation issue? error: 40 - could not open a connection to SQL Server

Hi,

I am running XP Professional SP2. I have tried to install both SQL 2005 Developer (on this machine) and SQL 2005 Enterprise (on my other laptop), seemingly with success, but get the following error message when I try to connect to the local host using SSMS:

TITLE: Connect to Server

Cannot connect to .

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)

There is obviously something I'm doing fundamentally wrong in the install process - I'd be grateful for any help you guys can offer!

Laura

You might try this,

on the server, using the "Server Configuration Manager" Expand to find the Protocols used for your server.

Now I am only going by my own recent experience which is limited. I am using TCP/IP so if you are, ensure that TCP/IP is enabled.

Then right Click on TCP/IP and on the IP Address Tab make sure it is Active. Then I believe you need to use TCP Port 1433 but make sure you don't put it in the "Dynamic Port" space.

You can check that your server is Listening on this port by going to a command line and typing "netstat -a" no quotes, this should show you a list of which ports it is listening on.. you should then see 1433 as one of them....

If not you need to ask someone smarter than me which shouldn't be hard to find .....

Also, using the SQL Surface area config program, make sure you are using TCP and not just Named Pipes (Whatever they are ?), this is where you wold also ensure that you can allow remote connections or just local connections.

I had this same problem yesterday and this fixed it.

hope this help

|||

Thank you very much for this - however, I already had both TCP/IP and Named pipes enabled.

However, after doing your cmd line thing, it has become apparent that my server is not listening on that port. How do I make it listen, bar the shouting that I'm already doing or do I need to switch the default port to something that the server is listening to?

Many thanks,

Laura

|||On the IP/Tab that I mentioned above, did you specify Port 1433 ?|||Yes.|||

Hi Laura, you mentioned above that you already had IP and Named Pipes enabled.

I just want to verify a couple of things, because there seems to be a few places that these need to be set.... Bear with me if I seem to be covering something we have already covered.

Firstly, using the "SQL Server Configuration Manager" under "Protocols for <you server name>". your TCP/IP is enabled here ?

Secondly, Right click on the word TCP/IP under the protocol Name column and choose Properties.

I will just list the settings I have on my system,

Enabled = Yes

Keep Alive = 30000

Listen All = Yes

No Delay = No

Now go to the "IP Address" Tab on the same window. and here are my settings.

under IP1 Active = Yes

Enabled = Yes

IP Address = <IP of your Server>

TCP Dynamic Ports = <Blank>

TCP Port = 1433

under IP2 Active = Yes

Enabled = Yes

IP Address = <IP of your Server>

TCP Dynamic Ports = <Blank>

TCP Port = 1433

Under IPALL

TCP Dynamic Ports = <Blank>

TCP Port = 1433

Next, using the "SQL Server Surface Area Configuration" program and selecting the link to "Surface Area Configuration for Surface Area Configuration" Expand the "Database Engine" section and ensure that the

"Local and Remote connections" radio button is set on. and that you are using either "TCP/IP and Named Pipes" or just "TCP/IP Only".

Other than that just ensure that each of your SQL Services are running..

Once again. You probably have checked all this already, It's just that one of your posts above mentioned that you had IP enabled and I wanted to make sure that you had everything else set as well.

One other thing I just though about is - ensure that your firewall is allowing the correct traffic through. I am not very knowledgeable about that so maybe someone else can respond on that issue. My Network guru isn't here today.

Also, where I mentioned the TCP Dynamic Ports above. I believe mine were originally set by Default to 0 (Zero),

I actually had to BLANK those out. it seems that if they are 0 (Zero) it wants to take some default port to listen on.

I hope something here helps you...

let me know if not, and we can try to look into something else...

I try to install MSDE using the sapwd switch. During the 'Please wait while

I searched high and low for installation logs and the event viewer on my

as you can see from
http://support.microsoft.com/default...9&Product=sql,
the most relevant cause of this exception is due to uncomplete
installation(s) of other MSDE instances...
if you are not involved in this problem, it recently appears due to MDAC
stack corruptions...
if you have WinXP sp2 installed you can not fix it by applying the higher
MDAC stack (http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/mdac/...s/default.aspx)
becouse no refresh is available for that MDAC sp level, but you can fix MDAC
as reported in http://www.macropool.com/en/download...xp_sp2.html...

Installation Issue

Hi,
I am Installing Reporting services enterprise Version On Windows 2000 Server
with SP4. The Installtion went smooth except at the finish dialog it gave me
the Warning message "Setup could not initialize the Report server. you must
manually initialize the report server"
My reportserver services shows started in the services window.
I tried running
"C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_regiis.exe -i . which
upated the framework succesfully.
Also the ASPNet user has the read/write permission on the Temporary ASP.NET
files folder.
I also ran rsactivate.exe successfully.
I also ran rsconfig.exe successfully.
I have given ASPNET user the Admin rights as well as It has the read/write
rights over the Asp.NET temporary files folder.
I have all the servers on the same machine.
Inspite of all these exercises when I browse for the http:\\Localhost page
it gives me Application error with message "Access denied to 'c:\inetpub'.
Failed to start monitoring file changes. "
Any suggestions please !!!
Thanks in advance.
siajHey ..
I solved the problem...
I uninstalled the Reporting services and reinstalled it with two change
a. I installed it on the F; drive instead of the rot drive C
The Instalation went on successfullly but again I got the same warning to
start the services manually.
b. Then I added read/write rights to the ASPNET user over the INETPUB folder.
(I think this worked out my problem)
Now I can browse on the http:\\localhost\reportserver
Cheers,

Installation issue

Hi everyone,
I'm hoping someone can help me out on this one. I'm getting an error when I
try to install rs developer edition on my box. The message is "could not
start the reportserver service on Local Computer Error 193: 0xc1" I had a
previous version of rs (rs evaluation edition) prior to this. All other
components seem to install correctly. The rs service will just not start.
Any help you can provide would be greated appreciated.
ThanksError 193 is:
%1 is not a valid Win32 application.
I wonder if your .Net framework is not working correctly? Can you run other
.Net apps?

> Thanks|||I think the problem lies in the fact that there is a previous version of
Reporting services on there. When I try to install RS it fails when it tries
to start the ReportService windows service. The error says that I don't have
the appropriate permissions to start the service. Since it's a testing box,
I made myself as an administrator and still got the same message. Everything
else seems to be running fine.
Thanks

Installation Issue

I have a test server that is a domain controller.
It is running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise.
Running SQL Server 2000 Enterprise with SP3a and hotfix 859.
I installed Reporting Services successfully.
Due to machine configuration changes, I uninstalled reporting services.
I have not been able to put it back on - its really strange - I get the
dialog box that says it successfully installed the SQL Server Reporting
Services Setup Support Files. When I click the Next button nothing happens.
If I reboot the machine and log back in as Administrator, I get the Error
Report dialog:
SQL Server Setup encountered an error and needed to close.
Of course, I choose "Send" to send the error report.
What I would like to do is generate an install log, to see why it is dying.
Can anyone tell me what command-line switch I can use to pass to the
setup.exe to put the log file, say on the c:\msi.log location?

I used this:

Installation Issue

I have installed SQL Reporting in the default web site and added a virtual
directorys (same names) pointing to the same Reporting Services folders in
a virtual web (external DNS; I don't open the root to internet access). I've
tried using both the default app pool and the virtual web app pool. When I
try to browse from the internet, I get a blank screen when I use anonymous
access. When I use windows logon, I get repeated prompts (3) and then access
denied.
1) What might be causing the blank screen in IE under anonymous?
2) How do I reference the SQL reporting in a virtual web for internet access
when it is installed in the default web site? Can I reference the same
application in multiple virtual web sites?
3) What might be causing the windows logon to fail?
Any help will be appreciated.
DanHello,
Install a virtutal web site and add a new virutal directory to the original
folder is not officially support. However, you can refer to the following
article:
Moving Reporting Services' Virtual Directories
http://www.sqljunkies.com/HowTo/525B575A-7F61-483A-AC8F-FEC700C34674.scuk
Windows authentication is not supported via Internet because Kerbose/NTLM
authentication need open too many ports via firewall which is not proper
for security purpose.
If you want to enable anonymous access, you need to configure via report
manager to enable Iusr_<computername> account to have the proper permssion
to the proper roles such as browser/content manager etc.
I hope the information is helpful.

All web services (IIS, FTP, NNTP .) were stopped before installation.

VladIf I remember correctly, you cannot install ANY apps on Win2k3 Web =

Installation is not possible on W2003

I have tried to install SQL 2000 standard on W2003 Web edition. When I click
on "Install Database Server" (Installation pane) a small icon "Created with
DemoShield" appears for few second and than disappears. Then nothing
happens .. :o(
All web services (IIS, FTP, NNTP .) were stopped before installation.
Any tip will be greatly appreciated
VladIf I remember correctly, you cannot install ANY apps on Win2k3 Web =
Edition. This limit is imposed by the OS.

Installation in Server

Hi,
I have reports which need public access.
I have a web application in 1 server which has public access.Database in 1 Server and the Reporting Services in another server(Database and Reporting Services are behind the firewall).I have links in my webapplication which will create pdf's and excels using reporting services.
Right now inside the network everything works perfectly fine.I access the databse and Reports using IP address(internal) of the servers.
When I try to access the application through the internet I cannot open the reports bcoz the IP addresses provided are internal ones and cannot be used outside firewall.I don't want to open up my database and Reporting services server to the public.
How can I go about it?
Pls help. You have to use Forms Authentication for Reporting Services to able to do
that..

Installation HELP please

I am trying to install MSDERelA on two machines one with SQL Server installed
(default) as a named instance and one without SQL Server (default). The OS is
XP Pro. The installation stops and logs the following error at the bottom of
the log:
DATABASE = C:\Docume~1\JIMHOP~1\Temp\f0ed6.msi
OriginalDatabase = C:\MSDERelA\setup\Run01.msi
UILevel = 3
ACTION = Install
====Logging Stopped===
Note: 1: 1708
Product: Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine -- Installation operation failed
I have no clue what this means or how to fix it. Any ideas? It won't install
at all.
Jim
Look for "Return value 3", and try to figure out from there why it failed.
When MSDE installation fails, it rollbacks every thing, so make sure you
check for the message before you click on 'Ok' Button when you get a error.
You can alternatively use DISSABLEROLLBACK=1 to stop installer from
rollback and /L*v <Log file name and path> to have a log file at a given
path.

Installation Help Needed

While installing J#, I also installed SQL Server 2005. Is this the same as the current SQL Server Express on the official website? If so, what should I download when I click one the "download now" link if I want all the best stuff shown there? If not, what do I download for the best stuff, too?I suggest downloading SP1, then downloading the advanced services and maybe the toolkit. there is lots of fun to be ahd with that little lot.|||So your saying that I should download all the stuff on the page?|||Just the stuff you think you are going to want, Do you want to create reports? If not then I would not download the BIDS report designer etc

Installation hangs!

Hi!
I've tried to install and reinstall (after thourogh removal) MSDE 2000 A. It
always hangs!
I've followed this document, but nothing helps.
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...eMSDE2000A.htm
It seems in the install log, that the execution of sqlredis.exe hangs.
Any advice/help would be very much appreciated!
regards
Karl

if you think that sqlredis.exe hangs, try separately re-installing MDAC
stack before installing MSDE ... you can get the desired version or the MDAC
package from http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/Default.aspx
you can check your current MDAC level using Component Checker, you can
download at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
please always add the
/L*v "c:\MsdeLog.txt"
parameter to your setup.exe bootstrap installer calls, in order to log the
installation process to a text file of about 2mb you can inspect for
RETURN VALUE 3
entries, that indicate errors, and, about 10/20 lines before or after each
entry you can fined some more (sometime cryptic) descriptive explanation of
the problem found...

Thanks for your reply!
It did not seem to help. The Component Checker reports that I have version
2.8 SP 1 on Win XP SP 2. I downloaded the Mdac 2.8 from the link you
suggested to reinstall it, but it reports that it's not intended for my
version of Windows, since its already included.
I paste the last few log rows from the MsdeLog.txt here (if that contains
any clues...):
It seems that sqlredis.exe just hangs forever...
